What 1D and 2D refer to

1D barcodes are the familiar linear barcodes commonly printed across product packaging. 2D codes contain information in two directions and include formats such as QR codes. The correct scanner is the one that reads the formats required by your stock, suppliers and customer workflow.

Choose by scanning position

Handheld scanners suit staff-led scanning where items are brought to the counter. Desktop scanners can suit a fixed counter position. Wireless scanning can be useful where the operator needs more freedom of movement, provided the connection method works with the intended POS setup.

Confirm before buying

Do not choose based only on price or the word barcode. Confirm the barcode symbologies, connection method, operating system and POS-software compatibility. Test or confirm how the scanner will enter data into the software if the workflow has any special requirements.
